| In the Philippine culture courtship is far more different in other countries, because mostly Filipina girls are so (pakipot) means playing hard to get. They are so shy, modest and well mannered, they are just waiting that the man will come to them and court them in a right way that they want to, just like giving roses and wants them to be serenaded my the man courting them. At first a guy mostly offer a first date in order not to be seen as aggressive. That's the starting point, but when they go to a date they go together with a group of friends.
In the Philippines, if a man wants to be taken seriously by a woman, he has to visit the latter's family and introduce himself formally to the parents of the girl. It is rather inappropriate to court a woman and formalize the relationship without informing the parents of the girl. It is always expected that the guy must show his face to the girl's family. And if a guy wants to be acceptable to the girl's family, he has to give pasalubong (gifts) every time he drops by her family's house. It is said that in the Philippines, courting a Filipina means courting her family as well. In courting a Filipina, it is not so easy because some girls wants to give a guy a hard time just to win their love. So they always be (pakipot) to the guy coz they said that being pakipot or playing hard to get is seen as an appropriate behavior in a courtship dance. And it also the way by which the Filipina will be able to measure the sincerity of her admirer. Being a dalagang Filipina(Filipina Maiden) it should be very modest and with good upbringing, not being aggressive or flirt to a guy that they like, and not showing to their admirer that she is also in love with him on the first time met. It takes a while or even a month or a year to win the heart of a Filipina girl. Mostly Filipina girls are hiding their feelings to the guy that they like coz they are just waiting to be courted first. And after a long courtship, if both of the couple decided to get married and that their feelings are mutual then they need to tell their parents about their plans. So the guy need to come visit the woman's family together with his family to talk about what they are planning for marriage, and also the guy will ask blessings to the woman's parents to marry their daughter. They called this on the Filipino Tradition as Pamanhikan (to go up the stairs of the house). This is also an occasion for the parents of the woman to get to know the parents of the man. After the guy get the blessings for the woman's parents to marry their daughter, then they will schedule their wedding plan and thats the time that the wedding date is formally set, and that they will gonna get married and to have their own happy family together.
